It is always a great feeling to be out of college, anticipating a new working
life where every penny earned is yours and can be spent exactly the way, you
have always wanted to. Great, life is fun and so it should be, but remember
always that there are certain guidelines that one must follow to further his
own career goals.
It becomes even more significant as now is the time when you are finally out of
your mother's lap to enter the big and mean world of business. It has been
observed in today's corporate world that employees are no more very
trust-friendly, whether it is to earn themselves some credit in front of their
superiors, or else saving their skin from a tricky situation.
Well, it might save you the day but this Machiavellian attitude really doesn't
work in the end. Instead, be honest to everyone and enjoy respect within the
organization. Remember if you are truthful, you don't have to think different
things at different times and in turn end up earning yourself some value with
everyone.
Moreover, why should you lie? You are the only loser around. Not only do you
lose your credibility, but also end up facing the music. Therefore, instead of
thinking from the very first day how you are going to climb the corporate
ladder by being glued to your boss and unnecessarily flattering him, simply try
to do your job.
Try to work in scheduled hours, arrive at the job site on time and provide
honest feedbacks on progress and problems. It is seen that the Generation X
exaggerates feedback a lot. Well, then be sure that you are digging your own
grave.
Generation X has become highly materialistic. There is dissimilarity between
being materialistic and ambition. Try to be ambitious but be a bit more
altruistic. A selfish person in the organization becomes a menace for others
working in the team. Instead of being egotistic, try being friendly and
supportive, value and honor all people, respect the dignity, and most
importantly work as a team.
Religiously remember one more thing: Never take anyone's credit at work. Trust
that, you will be the worst sufferer.
Now that you have worked hard to be reliable and earn respect in the
organization, take up responsibilities as frequently as possible and love your
work. You will only enjoy your work if you take pride in it.
Take initiative, prioritize your aims and goals, pay attention to details,
pursue excellence and be prepared to strike. It is critical that you strive to
improve abilities, learn new skills and take on broader responsibilities.
You should be able to provide not just a 100 per cent effort but much more
that. However, in all that always be sure to work within your limitations. If
you don't do that, be sure to make a fool of yourself. That's why in corporate
world be practical and not impulsive.
They say, `desire takes you somewhere, attitude everywhere'. Half your battle
is won if your attitude is pleasant and charismatic. Be dynamic and express
your enthusiasm for the assignment being provided to you. There is a very thin
line between a dynamic attitude and arrogance. Never be arrogant to anyone's
cause.
In the end always remember that whatever you do, whether good or bad, you end
up paying in this very birth only. Never cheat your organization. Be it
monetarily or any other ways. Understand the culture of the organization and
contribute towards its cause at your best.
Always make sure to follow company policies, rules and regulations and
accurately report everything making the entire aura around you enjoyable.
Few of these golden rules of life in context to your corporate life and be sure
not only would you be the most trustworthy, responsible and respected employee
but a role model for every new employee who joins your organization.
