Assess your readiness needing a small change in self

You may feel helpless contributing to large - system change.

You can lead change at your own level that can be just as important

To move your Organisation forward

In the era of dramatically increasing competition, people at every level can take the lead to improve work activitiesthat are within their spheres of influence, including tasks, parts of processes, or systems. Important questions for leaders at every level include the following:

  • What systematic steps can I take to improve my chances of success?

  • With what kind of changes will I have the greatest chance of success?

  • What factors I need to consider?

  • What actions am I ready to take?

Systematic steps to success

Leading change involves taking strategic, systematic steps. A systematic process can help ensure the change is successful through the following six-steps process which can help lead systematic, successful change efforts.

  • Assess the size and difficulty of the change.

  • Describe the change to others

  • Gather evidence about the current state of each change factor.

  • Develop a list of actions.

  • Assess your readiness to take action

  • Take action.

Step 1 :
Assess the size and difficulty

Before attempting to make a change, consider the likelyhood of success. A commitment of tome and energy toward making change requires an understanding of the magnitude of the change effort.

Step 2 : Describe the change

It has been said, "If you don't know where you are going or any road will take you there."

Step 3: Gather evidence about current states

Before you gather evidence about the current state of each change factor, you must understand the factors themselves. Following factors can increase or decrease the likelyhood of a change occurring.

  • Dissatisfaction with status quo.

  • Perception of a future state.

  • Benefits the change offers.

  • Perceived viable action steps.

  • Resources available (money and people)

  • Time

Step 4: Develop a list of actions

It is very unlikely that you will assess every change factor in the best possible level for change. There are certain actions you can take to improve the conditions for initiating change. Develop possible actions to move each factor toward the best possible change condition.

Step 5: Assess your Readiness

  • Describe factors which are dissatisfying.

  • Explain how the change will improve the work lives.

  • Describe how you will get the ideas in action plan.

  • Describe resources required making the change.

  • Describe the time commitment required carrying out the change.

Step 6: Take Action

People tend to react to change by resisting it. When people participate in the change effort the resistance is diminished or eliminated. It takes time for people to prepare themselves to change. It takes time to gain confidence in the action steps that will take them to desired future state.
