- When I do a job search or set up a Job Mail
search using a keyword I don't get any matching jobs. What should I do?
- Are any keywords omitted from my job search?
- How can I search so that certain keywords are excluded from
appearing in my results?
The naukriguru search functionality scores the jobs by how relevant they are to
your keyword. This helps in delivering more relevant search results.
The new technology translates any commas, spaces, dash and asterisks as AND, so
it won't list any jobs unless every single word you typed in (apart from and,
or and quotation marks " ") is somewhere in the job ad.
For instance, if you type like an Office assistant graduate, full
time, part time, you may not receive any search results. This is
because it is unlikely that a single ad has all those keywords. It is rare for
a particular job ad to be specified as full-time and part-time and casual and
graduate - the commas are translated as AND not OR.
Some more examples are shown below:
| Your keywords
|
Your results will be
|
| Graduate
|
All jobs containing the word graduate |
| Office assistant
|
All jobs containing office assistant(eg. Small
office assistant, Office and customer assistant)
|
| Office or assistant
|
All jobs containing the word office (eg. Office coordinator, office
manager, office cleaner), and all jobs containing the word assistant
(eg. Medical assistant, product assistant, shop assistant) AND all jobs
containing both words office and assistant somewhere in the ad
|
Are any keywords omitted from my job search?
Yes. Some common words and symbols are omitted from job search results and Job
Mail, such as the, a, an, also, busy, exciting, very, looking ,*, %, / and
similar.
They are excluded because these words appear frequently in job ads, so do not
assist in narrowing your results to a relevant set of jobs.
How can I search so that certain keywords are excluded from appearing in my
results?
You can do this easily by using NOT between words. For example Sales not
Outbound, Analyst not IT, or Store manager not weekend.
You can exclude more than one word or a phrase by using brackets or
quotation marks. For example, if you are looking for a store manager position
that doesn't require weekend or night shifts you can type:
Store manager not (weekend and night) - This search would result in
combinations of Store Manager jobs that exclude the words weekend and night
in the same ad.
Store manager not "weekend and night" - This search would result in
Store Manager job ads which doesn't have the exact phrase weekend and night
in them.
For example, jobs with sentences like this will not be shown: 'Some weekend and
night work is required', 'Occasionally you will be required to work in the weekend
and night'. But you will receive jobs that have both words weekend and
night, but not in the exact phrase, for example This role requires frequent
night work, and occasionally you might be needed to work during the weekend'.
